VisaExplain is not a law firm or immigration advisory service. This calculator is for general informational and educational purposes only. It does not constitute legal or immigration advice. Results may not reflect the most current immigration rules. Always verify with official UK Government sources (GOV.UK) or consult an immigration adviser regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority before making any decisions.

Needs evidence For calculation purposes only

This calculator checks the financial and course requirements you enter, not your eligibility overall. These other requirements for the Student route are not checked here:

  • The Student route does not lead to settlement — time on it does not count toward indefinite leave to remain by itself
  • Whether your CAS, course and sponsor are valid
  • The academic progression requirement
  • Genuine student assessment and credibility
  • Suitability — you must not fall for refusal under Part Suitability, and must not be in breach of immigration laws or on immigration bail

Always verify with official Home Office guidance and consider professional immigration advice.

How to resolve your £0 shortfall:

  • Pay Extra Deposit to University: Paying £0 directly to your university lowers your remaining tuition fee on your CAS.
  • Top Up Bank Account: Deposit £0 into your bank account and restart your 28-day holding clock.
  • Official Educational Loan: Provide an official student loan letter issued by a government or regulated financial institution.

Funds are one part of a Student visa. These are the other requirements the rules set — sponsorship, English language, course level and previous study.

When does my money need to be in the account, and for how long?

The financial requirement is not simply about having the money on the day you apply. The funds must be held for a continuous period ending shortly before the application, and the evidence must show the balance did not drop below the required amount at any point in that period.

This is the most common reason Student applications are refused — not the amount, but the evidence. Check the current holding period and the acceptable account types on GOV.UK before you apply.

Whose bank account can the money be in?

It can be your own account, or your parent's or legal guardian's account with their written consent and evidence of the relationship. Not every account type is accepted, and money held by other relatives or friends generally is not. Check the current rules on acceptable accounts before relying on funds held by someone else.

Can I work while studying?

Usually yes, but with limits on hours during term time and restrictions on the type of work — including a general prohibition on self-employment and on filling a permanent full-time role. The exact conditions depend on your course level and provider, and they are stated on your visa. Read the conditions attached to your own grant rather than relying on what another student tells you.

What happens if I fail or withdraw from my course?

Your permission is tied to your sponsorship. If you stop studying, your provider must report it and your permission is normally curtailed. If you are considering withdrawing, deferring or changing course, deal with the immigration consequences before you make the change — not afterwards.
